Textile Work & Dynamic Heritage

This collection documents textile craftsmanship as a form of embodied and technical knowledge. Moving from measurement and material selection to sewing, embroidery, and the finished garment, the photographs trace the different stages through which knowledge is translated into material form. Precision, memory, manual skill, and the use of contemporary tools come together in a practice in which cultural knowledge is continually reproduced and adapted.

This series approaches textile production as a form of embodied technical expertise. Measurement, proportion, material selection, sewing, and embroidery require precision as well as knowledge acquired through repeated practice. The photographs foreground the relationship between the maker’s hands, tools, materials, and technologies, revealing craftsmanship as a process in which knowledge is continuously applied, adjusted, and materialized. In this sense, heritage is not static: it is reproduced through practice while adapting to contemporary tools and forms of production.

Archival Note: The photographs in this collection form part of the Amazigh Women Archive, an independent digital documentary archive developed through fieldwork in Tiflet between 2018 and 2022. Images are preserved alongside contextual information concerning location, period of documentation, documented practice, and research context.
